Personality-packed website copy tailored to your brand.
I'm Gabby, an SC-based website copywriter with a penchant for local bookstores, funky nail designs, and long walks through book stories.
Believe it or not, there are ways to market your online business without social media.
GASP.
No, I know.
Take it from me: I currently don’t use Instagram or TikTok to market The Coveted Copy Studio. That isn’t to say that won’t change one day, but for now, I’ve opted to use other marketing methods that align more clearly with my business goals.
Let me explain my rationale.
When I started my business in March, I had a few key goals in mind:
Social media could have absolutely helped me do these things, but as a service-based business, I knew there were more effective ways to market myself. Plus, I only have so many hours in the day, and I wanted to really hone in on a few key strategies that would pay off if I kept at them consistently.
So, how do you market your online business without social media?
Let’s get into it.
PS. We talked all about this in this week’s newsletter! Sign up to get juicy info before anyone else. <3
You know we’re biiiiiig fans of SEO over here.
Imagine this: You spent HOURS writing and designing your gorgeous website only to learn no one can find you via Google.
For people [AKA your ideal clients] to find you, you have to be searchable! That’s where strategic SEO comes into play. Make sure you’re targeting keywords that are specific and align with your business. Then, place them on your website accordingly.
A few key pieces of real estate in the land of SEO:
Example: My homepage’s keyword is “website copywriter.” Notice that you see that keyword in my H1 and within the body copy directly below.

Blogging and SEO go hand-in-hand for a few reasons. New and/or updated blogs keeps Google interested in your website. But beyond that, it allows you to establish yourself as an expert in your field and ideally earn you a few backlinks from sources who are quoting or citing your blog.
(See how I linked to a website on backlinks? That’s an example of one.)
Blogging is also a great opportunity to become the answer to someone’s problem. Let’s say you’re a therapist and you’ve published an article called “How to Find the Right Therapist.” By optimizing your blog content for questions you know your audience is searching for, you’ll increase the traffic to your website. And if this scenario sounds like you, maybe even your practice!
Resource I love: Headline Studio
Pinterest is a search engine.
If you’re deep in your bride era like me, then you’re constantly looking to Pinterest for bridal hair and makeup inspo. But regardless of WHAT you’re searching for on Pinterest, you’re using it to find resources, inspiration, or ideas.
Pinterest is a great source to drive traffic and leads to your website, especially if you’re optimizing your blog content and providing the solution to someone’s problem.
See how everything connects?
I love Pinterest as a marketing strategy because it allows me to use multiple Pins per blog post. So even if I only post one blog a month, I’m able to get 3-4 pins out of it. Pinterest, like Google, likes to see activity. If you can, try to schedule Pins ahead of time so that you have weekly or even daily posts.
Here’s an example of one of three Pins I created for my blog, “How to Write an About Page You’re Proud Of.”

One thing about me? I love a good email to subscribe to. As a website copywriter, I subscribe to plenty of high-quality newsletters from other creative service providers because it helps me do my job better.
All that to say: Email marketing is an incredible way to market your online business, generate leads, and provide free value to potential clients.
So how do you get started?
On my website, there are two options for someone to subscribe to my weekly newsletter, Words from a Wingwoman. They can either download my lead magnet, Target Audience Toolkit, or they can simply opt-in on my website.
A lead magnet is a must for a few reasons.
Let’s say you’re a makeup artist. Maybe your lead magnet is a guide to your favorite Sephora products. Or a quiz to find your perfect everyday look.
Regardless of what the content is, make sure it provides value to your audience and doesn’t require 10000 hours of your time to put together.
Email marketing tool I use: Flodesk (use this link to get 50% off your first month!)
One of the first things I did when I started my business was join Entreprenista. This networking group is designed for female entrepreneurs and offers a database full of women who are growing, building, and scaling their businesses.
Since joining, I’ve had the opportunity to learn from incredible women, ask questions in a safe environment, and create a strong referral network.
You can pay a one-time fee or choose a monthly subscription, and I will say that I’ve made it back already within my first eight months of joining.
TL;DR
There are tons of ways to market your online business without using social media. Here are a few strategies I use on a consistent basis.
