One of my favorite things to do at the end of each year is, you guessed it, reflect.
In one of my recent newsletters, I shared everything my husband and I do on New Year’s Eve to prepare for the upcoming year.
The gist: We like to party.
JK.
We like to plan.
And reflect.
And audit our entire lives.
And do it while eating store bought cookies.
As we hunkered down in my office to reflect on 2024, there were a lot of tears. Because wow, it was such a beautiful year. Trying at times, of course, because human! But one of the most profound, life changing years of my entire life.
I married the love of my life, saw my OOT girlfriends so much more because of the wedding, launched The Coveted Copy Studio out into the world, completely rebranded before 2025, worked with a handful of really incredible clients, and spent the best week with said love of my life on the Amalfi Coast.
So as someone who LOVES to do audits, I thought we’d turn the tables, and do a year in review.
My 2024 Word
Every year, I choose a word. When I was teaching, I called this the One Word Project. My students would identify a word they wanted to live up to throughout the semester. We hung it around the classroom so they could have a physical reminder of it every day.
I’ve adapted the same practice in my own life. Though this is not new, nor something I coined. But it is something I’ve come to really love doing.
So, last year, I wanted to bloom.
Kind of cheesy, I know. But it’s what felt right for me. The year before that was absorb.
In 2024, I was focused on flourishing—as a person, partner, friend, writer, and business owner. I wanted to use all of the information and new experiences I had in 2023 and continue to build on them in meaningful ways.
When I look back on the year, I can confidently say I’ve bloomed in a lot of ways.
- I started my business, despite all of my fears and concerns.
- I advocated for a promotion at work, putting a portfolio together to prove that I had performed at a higher level than the year before, and received it.
- I had some tough conversations with friends and family that 2023 me probably would’ve avoided and swept under the rug.
- I gained a lot of confidence. Whether I was presenting in front of clients, on a pitch call, or trying a new workout class, I showed up with a sense of pride and knowingness that I deserved to be in these rooms.
So did I live up to my word? I’m going to check yes on that.
The Work Year in Numbers
- I sent 22 newsletters to my audience.
- I wrote 13 blogs for my website.
- I wrote 12 blogs for one client.
- I had 10 coffee chats from networking events.
- I wrote for eight universities.
- I landed six website clients.
- I got two raises.
- I got one promotion.
My Personal Life in Numbers
- I consumed probably 500 cups of coffee.
- I listened to 400+ hours of podcasts.
- I streamed Taylor Swift for (at least) 200 hours.
- I read 29 books.
- I visited six places (Columbus, OH; Rosemary Beach, FL; North Myrtle, SC; NYC; Amalfi Coast.)
- I made 5 new friends.
- We fostered 4 cats. (RIP to my angel, Gary)
- I took three girls trips.
- We took two trips to the Emergency Vet.
- I married one man.
- I lost one friend.
- We adopted 1 of 4 foster cats. A win!
2024 was incredibly special. Did I reach all of my goals? Of course not. But I tried really hard to live up to my word and truly do feel like I blossomed. I took a lot of calculated risks, exploded out of my comfort zone, stopped biting my tongue as much, and genuinely had some of the highest of highs.
If there is one takeaway from the year, it’s to remember that the process, not the destination, is what life is all about.
Take care of yourself friends,
Gabby
